Although the energy source for these incredibly hot areas has yet to be explained, New York seismometers recorded huge bursts of energy, which caused unexplained seismic "spikes" at the beginning of each collapse.
These spikes suggest that massive underground explosions may have literally knocked the towers off their foundations, causing them to collapse.
In the basements of the collapsed towers, where the 47 central support columns connected with the bedrock, hot spots of "literally molten steel" were discovered more than a month after the collapse. Such persistent and intense residual heat, 70 feet below the surface, in an oxygen starved environment, could explain how these crucial structural supports failed.
Peter Tully, president of Tully Construction of Flushing, N.Y., told AFP that he saw pools of "literally molten steel" at the World Trade Center.
Tully was contracted after the Sept. 11 tragedy to remove the debris from the site.
Tully called Mark Loizeaux, president of Controlled Demolition, Inc. (CDI) of Phoenix, Md., for consultation about removing the debris. CDI calls itself "the innovator and global leader in the controlled demolition and implosion of structures."
Loizeaux, who cleaned up the bombed Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, arrived at the WTC site two days later and wrote the clean-up plan for the entire operation.
AFP asked Loizeaux about the report of molten steel on the site.
"Yes," he said, "hot spots of molten steel in the basements."
These incredibly hot areas were found "at the bottoms of the elevator shafts of the main towers, down seven [basement] levels," Loizeaux said.
The molten steel was found "three, four, and five weeks later, when the rubble was being removed," Loizeaux said. He said molten steel was also found at 7 WTC, which collapsed mysteriously in the late afternoon.
Construction steel has an extremely high melting point of about 2,800 degrees Fahrenheit.
Asked what could have caused such extreme heat, Tully said, "Think of the jet fuel."
Loizeaux told AFP that the steel-melting fires were fueled by "paper, carpet and other combustibles packed down the elevator shafts by the tower floors as they 'pancaked' into the basement."
However, some independent investigators dispute this claim, saying kerosene-based jet fuel, paper, or the other combustibles normally found in the towers, cannot generate the heat required to melt steel, especially in an oxygen-poor environment like a deep basement.
Eric Hufschmid, author of a book about the WTC collapse, Painful Questions,* told AFP that due to the lack of oxygen, paper and other combustibles packed down at the bottom of elevator shafts would probably be "a smoky smoldering pile."
Experts disagree that jet-fuel or paper could generate such heat.
This is impossible, they say, because the maximum temperature that can be reached by hydrocarbons like jet-fuel burning in air is 1,520 degrees F. Because the WTC fires were fuel rich, as evidenced by the thick black smoke, it is argued that they did not reach this upper limit.
The hottest spots at the surface of the rubble, where abundant oxygen was available, were much cooler than the molten steel found in the basements.
Five days after the collapse, on Sept. 16, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) used an Airborne Visible/Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS) to locate and measure the site's hot spots.
Dozens of hot spots were mapped, the hottest being in the east corner of the South Tower where a temperature of 1,377 degrees F was recorded.
This is, however, less than half as hot at the molten steel in the basement.
The foundations of the twin towers were 70 feet deep. At that level, 47 huge box columns, connected to the bedrock, supported the entire gravity load of the structures. The steel walls of these lower box columns were four inches thick.
Videos of the North Tower collapse show its communication mast falling first, indicating that the central support columns must have failed at the very beginning of the collapse. Loizeaux told AFP, "Everything went simultaneously."
"At 10:29 the entire top section of the North Tower had been severed from the base and began falling down," Hufschmid writes. "If the first event was the falling of a floor, how did that progress to the severing of hundreds of columns?"
Asked if the vertical support columns gave way before the connections between the floors and the columns, Ron Hamburger, a structural engineer with the FEMA assessment team said, "That's the $64,000 question."
Loizeaux said, "If I were to bring the towers down, I would put explosives in the basement to get the weight of the building to help collapse the structure."
SEISMIC 'SPIKES'
Seismographs at Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades, N.Y., 21 miles north of the WTC, recorded strange seismic activity on Sept. 11 that has still not been explained.
While the aircraft crashes caused minimal earth shaking, significant earthquakes with unusual spikes occurred at the beginning of each collapse.
The Palisades seismic data recorded a 2.1 magnitude earthquake during the 10-second collapse of the South Tower at 9:59:04 and a 2.3 quake during the 8-second collapse of the North Tower at 10:28:31.
However, the Palisades seismic record shows that-as the collapses began-a huge seismic "spike" marked the moment the greatest energy went into the ground. The strongest jolts were all registered at the beginning of the collapses, well before the falling debris struck the Earth.
These unexplained "spikes" in the seismic data lend credence to the theory that massive explosions at the base of the towers caused the collapses.
A "sharp spike of short duration" is how seismologist Thorne Lay of University of California at Santa Cruz told AFP an underground nuclear explosion appears on a seismograph.
The two unexplained spikes are more than 20 times the amplitude of the other seismic waves associated with the collapses and occurred in the East-West seismic recording as the buildings began to fall.
Experts cannot explain why the seismic waves peaked before the towers actually hit the ground.
Asked about these spikes, seismologist Arthur Lerner-Lam, director of Columbia University's Center for Hazards and Risk Research told AFP, "This is an element of current research and discussion. It is still being investigated."
Lerner-Lam told AFP that a 10-fold increase in wave amplitude indicates a 100-fold increase in energy released. These "short-period surface waves," reflect "the interaction between the ground and the building foundation," according to a report from Columbia Earth Institute.
"The seismic effects of the collapses are comparable to the explosions at a gasoline tank farm near Newark on Jan. 7, 1983," the Palisades Seismology Group reported on Sept. 14, 2001.
One of the seismologists, Won-Young Kim, told AFP that the Palisades seismographs register daily underground explosions from a quarry 20 miles away.
These blasts are caused by 80,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate and cause local earthquakes between Magnitude 1 and 2. Kim said the 1993 truck-bomb at the WTC did not register on the seismographs because it was "not coupled" to the ground.
"Only a small fraction of the energy from the collapsing towers was converted into ground motion," Lerner-Lam said. "The ground shaking that resulted from the collapse of the towers was extremely small."
Last November, Lerner-Lam said: "During the collapse, most of the energy of the falling debris was absorbed by the towers and the neighboring structures, converting them into rubble and dust or causing other damage-but not causing significant ground shaking."
Evidently, the energy source that shook the ground beneath the towers was many times more powerful than the total potential energy released by the falling mass of the towers. The question is: What was that energy source?
While steel is often tested for evidence of explosions, despite numerous eyewitness reports of explosions in the towers, the engineers involved in the FEMA-sponsored building assessment did no such tests.
Dr. W. Gene Corley, who investigated for the government the cause of the fire at the Branch Davidian compound in Waco and the Oklahoma City bombing, headed the FEMA-sponsored engineering assessment of the WTC collapse.
Corley told AFP that while some tests had been done on the 80 pieces of steel saved from the site, he said he did not know about tests that show if an explosion had affected the steel.
"I am not a metallurgist," Corley said.
Much of the structural steel from the WTC was sold to Alan D. Ratner of Metal Management of Newark, N.J., and the New York-based company Hugo Neu Schnitzer East.
Ratner, who heads the New Jersey branch of the Chicago-based company, sold the WTC steel to overseas companies, reportedly selling more than 50,000 tons of steel to a Shanghai steel company known as Baosteel for $120 per ton. Ratner paid about $70 per ton for the steel.
Other shipments of steel from the WTC went to India and other Asian ports.
Ratner came to Metal Management after spending years with a metal trading firm known as SimsMetal based out of Sydney, Australia.

1. Analysis of September 11 and its aftermath have not only led to many unanswered questions, but also provided many convincing evidences of a deep conspiracy. Was it really a terrorist attack, or was it a conspiracy to advance the agenda of the so-called neo-conservatives? Know the facts to understand the truth. The truth is out there.
The entire event of September 11 in New York was `camera ready' to be telecasted live throughout the world. And it had the intended effects on the world opinion. Within hours of the attack, the U.S. administration pointed their finger to Muslim extremists. The plot to create a worldwide negative perception about Islam was thus successfully executed. Phase I of the blue print was thus completed.
Phase II started with a radical change in U.S. defense and foreign policies of which ``pre-emptive strike'' became the single most important agenda. Obviously, if you are interested in starting a fight but if no one is interested, what you do? Hit someone and you got a fight. So to start with, Afghanistan and Iraq became the first victims of the superpower's ``fighting bull'' mood.
2. `Perishable' Black Boxes and 'Magic Passport' Theory: It is an established procedure after an aircraft accident/disaster to recover the black boxes and analyse the data contained therein to find out any clues. The U.S. authorities have maintained a virtual secrecy on this issue. The FBI Director Robert Mueller said that Flight 77's (that is reported to crash in Pentagon) data recorder provided altitude, speed, headings and other information, but the voice recorder contained ``nothing useful''. And nothing much is known about the two planes' (that crashed into the twin towers) black boxes. So it appears that the black boxes, which are built to be indestructible, simply perished. On the other hand, the U.S. authorities ``found Ata's passport undamaged''. Ata must have opened the aircraft window to throw out his passport before colliding into one of the WTC towers. Otherwise, how can his passport survive the inferno that is ``believed'' to lead to the collapse of the WTC towers?
So far we have heard about the 'Magic Bullet' theory in relation to JFK's assasination. Now another magic has been added to the world of magic. It is the 'Magic Passport' theory. Anyone with a bit of commonsense should understand what big lies we have been asked to believe.
3. A Badly Written Crime Thriller Was Released for Public Consumption: If you are writing crime thrillers, you need to think about the trail of evidences that the perpetrators of a crime will leave behind which will ultimately lead to their identification. So Ata not only had to throw his passport through the aircraft window, but also had to ``mistakenly leave behind'' a bag at the airport containing a `chilling suicide note' and a flight instruction manual in Arabic! Could not Ata read English flight instruction manual? How long had he lived in the U.S?
Remember that the passport was reported ``to be found'' in the rubble, not in Ata's bag which he had ``mistakenly left behind''. Also notice that Ata carried a passport on a domestic flight. If he knew that it was his last flight, why would he at all bother to carry his passport when it was a domestic flight? Did Ata think that he might need the passport to ``enter heaven after his martyrdom''? Think about how laughable the U.S. authorities' claims are. The only purpose of this very badly written crime thriller is to place the blame on the Arabs in particular and the Muslims in general as a prelude to start the imperialistic war.
4. A New `Emperor Nero' Was Born: It is alleged that when Rome was burning in flames, Emperor Nero watched it while merrily playing his violin. Whether George Bush can play a violin is not known, but he can read stories aloud for children to listen. When the WTC was burning, George Bush was reported to be reading a story about a pet goat in a children's classroom. He did not show any visible sign of reaction when he was informed about the first attack on the WTC but continued reading. Was he trying to be a new `Emperor Nero' or just waiting for the ``mission to be accomplished''?
5. Dead Men Walking: None of the 19 alleged hijackers' names were on the lists of passengers (or on the lists of crews or pilots) of those 4 fatal flights. See the lists at:

So how did those 19 alleged hijackers boarded into the planes? Obviously, they must have checked-in as `hijackers'. What more do you need for a badly written crime thriller? But there are more.
FBI said that a list of these 19 names was found inside a car parked at the airport. What a classic thriller!!! It is not known whether FBI found a sticker on the car's window that stated ``hijackers used this car for travelling to the airport''.
Ten days after September 11, BBC reported that many of those 19 alleged hijackers had nothing to do with any of those incidents and were alive and well.

BBC reported that Abdelaziz al-Omari, named as the pilot who crashed the jet into WTC's North Tower, was reported by Saudi authorities to be working as an electrical engineer. He reported his passport had been stolen in Denver in 1995. Saudi officials said it was possible that another three people whose names appear on the FBI list also are alive.
Only after the BBC report, the U.S. authorities conceded that there was some doubt about the identification of some of the hijackers, but showed no interest in identifying the real hijackers. The BBC report and other similar reports did not gain any prominence in the media of the western world because it did not serve their agenda. Still today, those 19 photographs are referred to as those of the hijackers.

6. What Hit Pentagon, Aircraft or Missile?: Photographs of Pentagon crash site did not show any debris from the aircraft nor did the pattern of the damage indicate that it was the result of an aircraft crash. If you carefully see those pictures, you will notice that the aircraft wings caused no damage to the buildings. The damage looks like being caused by a wingless aircraft, i.e. a missile, or something else.

7. Flying and Demolition Jobs Made Easy? Do you remember those aircrafts taking sharp turns (as was seen on world-wide telecast) before colliding into the twin towers with so devastating accuracy? But the alleged hijackers were said to have a few months of training with flight simulators and small training planes. So is not this tantamount to suggesting that handling large aircrafts are relatively easy? Another ``lesson'' from the U.S. authorities' version of events is that controlled demolition of large structures does not need use of explosives, a few barrels of jet fuel can do it. Does it sound very funny? Then think about the U.S. authorities' version of September 11 events.
8. How Did the Towers Actually Collapse?: The U.S. authorities' version about the twin tower collapse is a total rubbish. Scientific explanations and evidences prove that the twin towers were brought down by controlled demolition. Following are very briefly some of the reasons to prove that:
* (i) Were the Laws of Physics Suspended on that Day?: When the twin towers collapsed, they collapsed at an astonishing speed, neatly and symmetrically. Using formula from Physics, it has been shown that it would take about 10 seconds for the upper part of the twin towers to reach the ground IF AND ONLY IF there was nothing in between the upper part of the building and the ground. That was exactly the time that the collapse of the towers actually took. Then what happened to the floors below it? In other words, the floors below provided no resistance at all to prevent the `free fall' of the upper part. It means that the lower part of the towers were so damaged that they provided no resistance to the `free fall' of the upper part. This happens only in the case of a controlled demolition. On the other hand, if the towers had collapsed only because of a weakened steel frame and by its own weight, then it would have taken at least one second for each floor (and those above it) to collapse onto the one below it. Assuming that the collapse started from the 80th floor, it would have taken at least 80 seconds for the collapse to be complete.
The U.S. government's version of the twin tower collapse thus suggests a fundamental inconsistency with the law of physics. None of the laws of Physics was suspended on 11 September 2001. What was suspended was people's common sense by the shock of the events. And conspirators used that shock therapy for people to swallow their badly written ``crime thriller''. * (ii) Jet Fuel Cannot Melt Steel: The melting point of construction steel is 1500 degrees Celsius. Jet fuel burning in open air can reach just over half of that temperature. Inside a high-rise office block (which are usually an enclosed space), the fire is likely to have died down rather quickly because of lack of enough oxygen. The thick black smoke was an indication of that. That 300,000 tons of steel structure was melted by two planeloads of jet fuel is an absolute rubbish.
The temperature was so high that part of the WTC's steel structure evaporated and part of it took the shape of ``Swiss cheese''. It is impossible for fire from jet fuel to cause all these. According to one report, ``there is no indication that any of the fires in the World Trade Centre buildings were hot enough to melt the steel framework. Jonathan Barnett, professor of fire protection engineering, has repeatedly reminded the public that steel - which has a melting point of 2,800 degrees Fahrenheit - may weaken and bend, but does not melt during an ordinary office fire. Yet . . . . a one-inch column has been reduced to half-inch thickness. Its edges - which are curled like a paper scroll - have been thinned to almost razor sharpness. Gaping holes - some larger than a silver dollar - let light shine through a formerly solid steel flange. * (iii) Concrete Turned into Dust Cloud: There are speculations about the use of a new secret weapon that disintegrates matters fast. Much of the concrete of the twin towers turned into fine dust causing a huge dust cloud, a process that would have required enormous amount of energy. Where did this energy come from?
* (iv) Seismic Evidence of Underground Explosions: The Columbia University's observatory in Palisades, New York, 34 km north of WTC recorded seismographic evidence of huge underground explosions well before the debris from the crumbling towers reached the ground ( http://intellex.com/~rigs/page1/wtc/seismic.htm or http://uscrisis.lege.net/911/#911seismic ). The huge spike in the seismic chart is an indication that the foundation of the towers were destroyed by explosives. Firefighters' also reported explosions inside the towers. Close analysis of twin tower photographs clearly showed horizontal layers of explosive charges detonating. It is only because of the destruction of the base of the towers and use of controlled explosions on different floors that the towers collapsed so fast, symmetrically and neatly.
* (v) Hijacking `in Abstentia': An amateur video of the second plane hitting the south tower, shown on Danish TV2's 22 Fokus on 19 September showed a laser-beam like spot moving across the west façade of the tower immediately before the plane crashed into it. The spot, which some experts believe, is evidence of a laser guidance system for the plane. There are speculations that the planes which collided into the twin towers were overtaken by remote control mechanism. Some people suggested that the mysterious destruction of the Egypt Air plane in late 2000 as the first trial of `hijacking by remote control'.
* (vi) Photograph of Unexplained Objects: There are photographic images that an incredibly fast-streaking unexplained object headed towards the twin towers at the precise moment the plane exploded in the south tower ( http://www.denverspiritualcommunity.org/AmericanFreePress/AFPNewsJul02.htm#anchor1671271 ).
* (vii) Other Unexplained Things: The presence of extreme hot spots and an unexplained crater at ground zero was another cause of suspicion.
* (viii) Built to Survive: The twin towers were designed to survive a collision with a Boeing 707. Those colliding into the twin towers were slightly larger, but it explains nothing about the towers' collapse.
* (ix) Mysterious Collapse of a 3rd Building: In the afternoon of 11 September, a third building (7-WTC) also collapsed in the same pattern as the twin towers. Not only that, sections of its steel beam evaporated, the New York Times reported on Nov 29, 2001. It was not hit by any aircraft but only by small amount of debris from the twin towers. What caused its collapse and what caused sections of its steel beam to evaporate? No satisfactory answer has been provided.
* (x) Re-create to Understand: It won't be difficult to undertake an experimental re-creation of the collapse of the twin towers on a miniaturized scale in order to understand their collapse. However the U.S. government won't ever do it.

9. Any Investigations? What investigations have been conducted to an event that caused the death of so many innocent lives and changed the world? The Bush administration not only showed lack of interest in investigations but actually resisted any effort for a broad enquiry. Whatever investigations were carried out, their objectives were preset. Not only that, evidences of this crime were quickly destroyed. All the remains of the steel structure, which contained vital forensic evidences, were exported overseas as quickly as possible. And no investigation is known to have been carried out about the mysterious transactions in the stock market that took place days before September 11. Anyone who destroys evidence of crime and obstructs investigation should be a natural suspect.
10. Motives, Beneficiaries and Victims: All acts of crime have motives, beneficiaries and victims. If Bin Laden was behind September 11, what was his motive and how has he or his organization benefited from it? In George Bush's own words, ``he is on the run''. So was it Bin Laden's motive ``to get chased to be on the run''? If Bin Laden was so clever as to plan and execute September 11 by sitting in Afghanistan, then he would have been clever enough to predict its consequences as well.
Who gained from September 11? George Bush's popularity rose to unprecedented levels. New U.S. imperialism is now occupying the second largest oil reserve in the world and D*i*ck Cheney's Halliburton got the Iraq oil contracts. In the insecurity and uncertainties created by September 11, the security related and arms industry got a major boost. According to a recent report, the U.S. exported 45 per cent of world's total arms export in 2002-03. How Israel is benefited does not need any elaboration.
The primary victims of September 11 are the Muslims. September 11 was created to generate hatred against the Muslims so that the new American imperialism in the middle-east can be justified. Another victim is civil liberties as draconian laws are being introduced in the name of ``fighting terrorism''. In the matter of a single day, the general environment of peace and security was shattered and replaced by an environment of fear.
11. Bin Laden's Role: Bin Laden's role looked mysterious. Since September 11, the world has from time to time heard about the so-called ``Bin Laden tapes''. Is Bin Laden so powerful or clever to carry out attacks by declaring them in advance? These tapes are actually designed to help maintain George Bush's war hysteria by maintaining an atmosphere of fear.
Consider the official version: "A man living in caves planned and executed the most daring attacks on the superpower's heart which the superpower utterly failed to prevent. Not only that, the caveman poses a constant threat to the superpower by issuing in advance threats of future attacks". Is not this an absolute non-sense?
Bin Laden's name has been used by the conspirators to serve the role of the ``bad guy'' in this ``crime thriller''. These ``Bin Laden tapes'' are the forgery work of the conspirators. Immediately after September 11, Bin Laden denied any role in September 11. But in the tape that was shown to the world after September 11, Bin Laden was shown to have ``accepted that it was done by a group of Muslims''. What explains these inconsistencies? Is there any reason why Bin Laden would accept responsibility when no Muslim was involved in it? The TRUTH is that September 11 was an ``insider job'' carried out by the extreme rightists within the U.S establishment and NO Muslim was involved in it.
12. Pearl Harbour Recreated: According to a U.S. Civil Rights Group, ``Rumsfeld and a number of other Bush administration officials have ties to a once-obscure policy group called the Project for a New American Century (PNAC). In a 2000 white paper, PNAC - which had long urged an American invasion of Iraq - said that for the United States to assert itself properly as the world's lone superpower, ``some catastrophic and catalysing event - like a new Pearl Harbour'' - would be required. Washington Post (27/1/2002) in a review of George Bush's global strategy reported that ``Like his father, Bush tries to keep a daily diary of his thoughts and observations. That night (11/9/2001), he dictated: "The Pearl Harbor of the 21st century took place today."
Why a re-creation of Pearl Harbour was necessary? It was necessary to justify the introduction of the `Pre-Emptive Strike Doctrine'. Without the atrocities of September 11, the Pre-Emptive Strike Doctrine could not be justified and the Pre-Emptive Strike Doctrine would have sounded like Warmongers Doctrine. September 11 was thus an integral part of the Pre-Emptive Strike Doctrine.
Secondly, the re-creation of Pearl Harbour was necessary to change American people's attitude towards war. Since the Vietnam war, Americans had a distaste for involvement in ground warfare. However imperial occupation of others' land requires use of ground troops. So a shock therapy was needed to bring a change in American people's attitude towards war. September 11 provided that shock therapy and it worked. After September 11, polls conducted in the U.S. showed that majority of Americans are now prepared to accept even large number of casualties from war.
Former British Environment Minister Michael Meacher in a recent interview (19/9/2003) revealed that both wars against Afghanistan and Iraq were planned before 11 September 2001 ( http://new.globalfreepress.com/article.pl?sid=03/09/19/1527251 ). However any such war without a provocation would have been squarely condemned by the world before 11 September 2001. So the solution? A new Pearl Harbour.
A further disturbing sign is that September 11 is probably not the last re-creation of Pearl Harbour. Recently, the U.S. authorities intentionally leaked a ``CIA assessment that it is only a matter of time that a massive attack will take place''. What is the purpose of leaking this kind of ``intelligence reports''? Think about what ominous sign does it carry. Some believe that another re-creation of Pearl Harbour could take place before the next U.S. presidential election. 13. Who Dictates U.S. Foreign and Defense Policies? Bush or Osama?Since September 11, the world has seen radical changes in U.S. foreign and defense policies. The world has been told that the reshaping of U.S. foreign and defense policies under Bush administration was a response to September 11. This is tantamount to suggesting that the reshaping of Washington's foreign and defense policies is a passive reaction to the `decisions taken in Afghanistan's cave'. One needs to understand a simple fact that `actions' of Bin Laden DO NOT CAUSE changes in U.S. foreign and defense policies.
14. Facts versus Fiction: Sometimes facts can be stranger than fictions and in this case it is. If this critique has not convinced you enough, I encourage you to do your own research. September 11 was an event of enormous significance which has changed the world overnight with consequences for world peace and order. Some of the events, such as the collapse of the twin towers, can be scientifically verified. But it won't be done because conspirators are interested in covering it up. Raising public awareness is one way of creating public pressure to demand thorough and independent investigations.
